The Rooster

Element & Hidden Stems

酉 carries only one hidden stem: 辛 Yin Metal. Like 子 (Rat) and 卯 (Rabbit), the Rooster is pure. Single-element. Concentrated. Undiluted Yin Metal — the jewel, the precision instrument, the scalpel.

This purity makes the Rooster the most refined branch in the system. Where the Monkey (申) carries three Yang elements and processes constantly, the Rooster carries one Yin element and reflects perfectly. Not better. Different. The microscope versus the Swiss Army knife.

The Rooster in Four Positions

Year Branch: Rooster generations are marked by precision, honesty (sometimes brutal), and an aesthetic standard that applies to everything. The Rooster year person sees what's wrong. Always. They can't not see it.

Month Branch: A Rooster month (roughly September) means the family environment valued standards, correctness, and detail. The person learned early that quality is non-negotiable — a gift when the standard is reasonable, a prison when it isn't.

Day Branch: 酉 at the Day Branch means the person's intimate nature is precise, observant, and honest to a fault. Privately, the single 辛 stem creates a person of crystalline clarity. Relationships require the ability to receive truth without flinching.

Hour Branch: 酉 at the Hour Branch means later life is oriented toward refinement, quality work, and roles that require precision over volume. The trajectory moves toward the one thing done perfectly.

Key Relationships

Clash: 卯 Rabbit (卯酉冲). Yin Metal meets Yin Wood. The jewel meets the vine. Two pure, single-element branches in opposition. Precision against flexibility. The scalpel against the tendril. This clash is refined, not explosive — a disagreement between two fundamentally different approaches to the same world.

Harmony: 辰 Dragon (辰酉合 → Metal). The Dragon's Earth combines with the Rooster's Metal to produce concentrated Metal. The partnership that creates the sharpest possible edge.

Three Harmony: 巳酉丑 (Snake-Rooster-Ox) → Metal Frame. The coalition of refinement and structure.

What Gets Missed

The Rooster's honesty is not rudeness. 辛 is Yin Metal — the jewel, not the axe. The Rooster doesn't cut you. The Rooster reflects you. What you see might be uncomfortable, but the discomfort is in the reflection, not in the mirror. The person who gets offended by a Rooster is the person who doesn't want to see themselves clearly.
