Six unbroken lines. Pure yang. The energy that initiates everything.
乾 is not about winning. It is about creating. The dragon that rises from the depths to the sky is not fighting anything. It is expressing its nature fully — and the world rearranges around that expression.
This hexagram appears when creative power is available and the question is whether you have the discipline to use it without burning everything down.
The Lines
Line 1 (bottom) — Hidden dragon. Do not act. The power is real but the timing is wrong. You are in preparation. Building strength in private. The person who forces visibility at this stage wastes the energy that was meant for later.
Line 2 — Dragon appearing in the field. The first emergence. You are now visible to people who matter. Seek guidance. Find the teacher or ally who can help you direct what is surfacing. This line rewards humility in strength.
Line 3 — Active all day, vigilant at night. The danger line. Enough power to act, not yet enough wisdom to act correctly. Work hard during the day and examine yourself honestly at night. The risk here is overconfidence.
Line 4 — Wavering flight over the depths. A choice point. You can retreat into safety or leap forward into the unknown. Neither is wrong. The line says: whatever you choose, choose it completely.
Line 5 — Flying dragon in the heavens. Full expression. The power and the position aligned. This is the line of visible leadership and influence. The person here meets the people they are meant to meet and does the work they are meant to do.
Line 6 (top) — Arrogant dragon will have cause to repent. The peak exceeded. Power pushed past its natural limit becomes destruction. The dragon that flies too high has nowhere to go but down. This line is a warning, not a punishment.
All nines — A host of dragons without a leader. Good fortune. When every line is yang, the formation has no single head. The power is distributed. Collective creative force without hierarchy.
Nuclear Hexagram
Nuclear Hexagram: 1 乾 (Heaven)
乾's nuclear hexagram is itself. The creative force, examined at its core, is still creative force. There is nothing hidden inside it that contradicts its nature.
Practical Application
乾 appears when the energy to create, lead, or initiate is fully available. The question is never "do I have the power." The question is "do I have the discipline to match it." The six lines are a complete guide to how creative power rises, peaks, and falls. Find which line matches where you are right now and follow its specific counsel.
