The classics give it a second name, 禄合鸳鸯, the paired ducks of prosperity, for the way the two run as a matched pair.
What the doubling produces is not just wealth but holdable wealth — a thick, sound prosperity that a person is able to keep rather than merely touch. One 禄 is fortune; two 禄 converging is fortune with a foundation under it.
