The 神煞, the minor stars and spirits, are the small deities scattered through a chart. Where the great formations set the architecture of a life, the 神煞 add texture and colour: a leaning toward solitude here, a pull of magnetism there, a domain that runs a little leaky, a hand of help that arrives when things go wrong. None of them is a verdict. Each names a quality, a setting, a tendency, read by the palace or pillar it falls in and by what the rest of the chart does with it. This guide gathers them in families.
Noble and protective stars
These are the stars of help, standing, and shelter — the hands that reach back when things go hard.
- 天乙贵人 (Heavenly Noble) — the most honoured noble star. At the moment things go wrong, someone of standing reaches back to pull you through; danger softens. (Carries its own page.)
- 天德 (Heavenly Virtue) — a protective star: sharp events soften and help arrives because the chart-owner is the kind of person help wants to reach. Virtue read as shelter.
- 月德 (Monthly Virtue) — protection that works through character; a steadiness that dissolves trouble rather than fighting it. Companion to 天德.
- 国印 (State Seal) — formal authority that is granted and trusted: official standing, a name people rely on. Steady rather than forceful.
- 天贵 (Heavenly Nobility) — being held in regard: a clean reputation, a name people trust, the quiet weight of being taken seriously. Paired with 恩光.
- 恩光 (Grace Light) — favour from above: an award, a selection, an examination passed, the notice of someone with power to lift you. Paired with 天贵.
- 太极贵人 (Grand Ultimate Noble) — the person who cannot leave a question half-answered; a pull toward roots, history, and metaphysics, with study that takes hold and finishes.
- 三奇贵人 (Three Marvels Noble) — unusual range and a mind that won't stay in one field; gifted rather than merely competent, but range without an anchor scatters.
- 福星贵人 (Fortune Star Noble) — the quiet star of material ease: not wealth, but the floor not falling out; food and shelter tend to be there. (Note: the classical method per 三命通会·卷六·福星贵人 keys on the year stem; our engine reads it off the day stem — an honest divergence.)
- 金舆 (Golden Carriage) — the carriage that carries someone of standing: material comfort, a soft landing; often a marriage-luck star, support through the partner.
- 天巫 (Heavenly Shaman) — the lift through an unseen channel: promotion granted rather than fought for, inheritance, plus affinity with metaphysics.
- 解神 (Dissolving Deity) — relief: where a palace carries a 煞 or 化忌, 解神 softens the harm, the knot loosened rather than cut.
Standing and command
- 三台 (Three Terraces) — elevation in standing: grade, title, the visible step up; honour added to honour when paired with 八座.
- 八座 (Eight Seats) — the actual seat held: real position rather than the title alone; amplifies into genuine elevation when paired with 三台.
- 将星 (General Star) — command: the person others organise around, the one who takes charge unasked; wants real authority to hold.
- 台辅 (Terrace Aide) — a ZWDS support star (台辅封诰条).
- 封诰 (Sealed Decree) — a ZWDS support star (台辅封诰条).
Learning, letters, and refinement
- 文昌贵人 (Literary Flourish Noble) — the scholar star: a quick mind, the written and spoken word lands, formal learning goes smoothly; also turns 凶 aside. (Carries its own page.)
- 学堂 (Academy Hall) — where learning takes root: study comes naturally and early; the ground floor of scholarship, companion to 词馆.
- 词馆 (Hall of Letters) — where learning comes out polished: the well-made sentence, the argument that holds, writing or speech with finish on it.
- 龙池 (Dragon Pool) — real competence: a craft mastered, technical learning that holds, a clear capable intelligence; the substance under 凤阁's surface.
- 凤阁 (Phoenix Tower) — the aesthetic finish: presence, taste, an eye for the made-beautiful; the finish on 龙池's substance.
- 博士 (Scholar Deity) — a quick, learned mind: cleverness, range, an ease with words; resourceful intelligence.
Magnetism and warmth
- 桃花 (Peach Blossom) — magnetism, not seduction: the pull people feel before they can name why; 墙内 inside the marriage, 墙外 ranging wider. (Carries its own page.)
- 红艳 (Red Beauty) — the visible warmth of a personality: charm that shows on the face, ease around feeling and people; expressiveness, not a flaw.
- 沐浴 (Bathing) — newly arrived, exposed, not yet settled: appeal that is visible, a season of change, things not yet fixed in place.
- 喜神 (Joy Deity) — glad events: a wedding, a birth, a celebration, the lightness of a happy season.
- 青龙 (Azure Dragon) — good fortune and glad money: celebration, a smooth turn, income that arrives with ease.
Movement and solitude
- 驿马 (Post Horse) — the star of movement: travel, relocation, a life that does not sit still; clashed it runs, combined it is held. (Carries its own page.)
- 华盖 (Canopy Star) — the talented loner: gifted and inward, drawn to art, religion, and philosophy; solitude as working condition, not wound. (Carries its own page.)
- 孤辰 (Solitary Star) — solitude: self-reliance, distance from kin, genuinely fine alone and sometimes too fine; a setting, not a sentence.
- 寡宿 (Widowed Lodge) — relational distance: company kept thin, closeness that does not come easily; a temperature, not a fate.
Provision and the body
- 天厨 (Heavenly Kitchen) — the table is set: food, salary, the steady provision that keeps a life fed; a smaller, warm provision star.
- 天医 (Heavenly Doctor) — the healer star: affinity with medicine, care, and repair, a quiet competence around what is unwell.
- 天月 (Heavenly Moon) — susceptibility in the body: a lingering complaint, a constitution that runs a little weak; a marker, not a sentence.
- 病符 (Sickness Token) — ailment: ill health, a lingering complaint, a constitution that needs watching; a caution, not a sentence.
Loss, drain, and friction
- 大耗 (Major Loss) — heavy attrition: a large expense, a serious loss, a real drain rather than the petty leak of 小耗.
- 小耗 (Minor Loss) — small attrition: petty expenses, minor losses, the slow leak of small things.
- 元辰 (Origin Spirit) — the place energy leaks: quiet friction and drain that wears rather than breaks. Also called 大耗.
- 亡神 (Spirit Loss) — a loss that comes from within rather than outside: the leak in the room; a mind that plans deep and keeps its own counsel.
- 劫煞 (Robbery Spirit) — the loss that comes from outside: the sudden turn, the thing taken; met well, it reads as decisiveness under pressure.
- 灾煞 (Calamity Spirit) — the shock that lands on the body or standing: injury, illness, disputes that arrive uninvited; a caution, not a sentence.
- 天伤 (Heavenly Injury) — drain: loss and reversal that surface when a cycle activates it; hems the Travel palace with 天使.
- 天使 (Heavenly Emissary) — the hazard of accident and illness that surfaces when a cycle activates it; with 天伤 marks where the moving cycle turns dangerous.
- 天哭 (Heavenly Weeping) — grief: lamentation, a weight of mourning, sadness carried; in a kin palace, the pain of loss.
- 天虚 (Heavenly Void) — hollowness: a body run thin, wealth named but not full, a thing that looks present and is not.
Conflict, edge, and officialdom
- 飞刃 (Flying Blade) — the blade thrown: sharpness that moves, force that can cut the wrong way when it acts too fast; useful when it has a target.
- 飞廉 (Slander Deity) — friction among people: gossip, blame, the small enemy, words that turn against the chart-owner.
- 官府 (Office Deity) — entanglement with officialdom: disputes, litigation, the legal and contractual; trouble through formal channels.
- 伏兵 (Ambush Deity) — the hidden obstruction: the concealed obstacle, the resistance that does not declare itself.
The 博士十二神 (martial and administrative deities)
Placed in sequence from the palace 禄存 occupies, these twelve colour the domains they fall in. Several appear above in their families; the remaining ones:
- 力士 (Strongman Deity) — force and the holding of power: strength, firmness, the capacity to take charge and bear weight.
- 将军 (General Deity) — martial drive: boldness, decisiveness, the energy that goes to the front; a forward, commanding edge.
- 奏书 (Memorial Deity) — good news on paper: documents that go well, recognition through the written report, a small advance in fortune and rank.
The void cluster
- 旬空 (Decade Void) — something named but not full: a domain that looks present and does not hold; its second face is detachment and release, not only loss. (Carries its own page.)
- 截路空亡 (Road-Blocking Void) — obstruction in timing: the trip that stalls, the plan that breaks mid-step, the moment that does not connect to the next; friction in sequence. (Carries its own page. Placement off the day stem: 甲己→申酉, 乙庚→午未, 丙辛→辰巳, 丁壬→寅卯, 戊癸→戌亥.)
Timing and alignment
- 阳错阴差 (Misaligned Pillar) — timing half a step off in close relationships: marriage early or late, friction with in-laws; a caution not to force the timing.
A note on reading the minor stars: a single 神煞 rarely decides anything. Read it by the palace or pillar it falls in, by whether a clash or void has unsettled it, and above all by what the rest of the chart does with the texture it adds. Each names a colour, not a destiny.
