归妹。征凶,无攸利。

Thunder over Lake. Entering a structure not of your design.

The Lines

初九:归妹以娣,跛能履,征吉。

Line 1 — The marrying maiden as a concubine. Secondary position, but functional. Make what you have work.

九二:眇能视,利幽人之贞。

Line 2 — A one-eyed man who is able to see. Limited vision but still capable. Stay independent within the structure.

六三:归妹以须,反归以娣。

Line 3 — The marrying maiden as a slave. Accept only if the trajectory is upward.

九四:归妹愆期,迟归有时。

Line 4 — The marrying maiden draws out the allotted time. The delay is not rejection.

六五:帝乙归妹,其君之袂不如其娣之袂良,月几望,吉。

Line 5 — The sovereign gave his daughter in marriage. Substance over show. The nearly full moon is more beautiful than the completely full one.

上六:女承筐无实,士刲羊无血,无攸利。

Line 6 — The woman holds the basket but there are no fruits. Empty ceremony. The commitment was never real.
