既济。亨小,利贞,初吉终乱。

Water over Fire. Everything in its correct position. Perfect order. 初吉终乱 — good at the beginning, disorder at the end.

The Lines

初九:曳其轮,濡其尾,无咎。

Line 1 — He brakes his wheels. Slowing down at the start of completion.

六二:妇丧其茀,勿逐,七日得。

Line 2 — The woman loses the curtain of her carriage. Something decorative lost. Don't chase it.

九三:高宗伐鬼方,三年克之,小人勿用。

Line 3 — After three years he conquers it. Victory's maintenance requires the right people.

六四:繻有衣袽,终日戒。

Line 4 — The finest clothes turn to rags. The peak of completion is where decay begins.

九五:东邻杀牛,不如西邻之禴祭,实受其福。

Line 5 — The modest offering at the right time surpasses the grand gesture. The neighbor in the west with his small offering receives the real happiness.

上六:濡其首,厉。

Line 6 — He gets his head in the water. The completion exceeded. The head, not the tail, is in the water now.
