Following the Child Formation 从儿格

The self expressed entirely through what it creates. Output flowing into wealth, child producing grandchild.

The Constitution

A self that surrenders into what it produces. The child, 儿, is 食伤 — Output, what the day master creates. In this surrender the day master has no root, Output fills the chart, and rather than hold itself the day master follows its own child, giving itself over entirely to what it generates. 滴天髓 gives the famous line: 从儿不论身强弱,只要吾儿又见儿 — for this formation do not argue over the day master's strength, only make sure the child has a child of its own, meaning 食伤 goes on to produce 财.

Output flowing into Wealth, child producing grandchild, is the highest grade of 从儿格 and a chart of real prosperity — the self expressed entirely through its creative production and what that production earns. The person does not hold an identity apart from what they make; they are their output, and their output generates value.

It is broken by 偏印 seizing the Output (枭神夺食) and by 比劫 transparent giving the day master a root. The reading is confirming the surrender into Output is true, and checking whether the child has a child — 财 to receive the production.

What You See That Others Don't

You see yourself most clearly in what you make. Where others hold a self separate from their work, you have surrendered into your creative output — and what you produce is not a product of you but the expression of you, complete. The reading is constitutional. A true 从儿 does not stand apart from its making; it is the making.

You also see how creation becomes value. The formation runs cleanest when the child has a child — when output produces wealth — and you tend to perceive instinctively how what you make can generate, compound, and earn. That fluency in turning creation into prosperity is the surrender's gift.

What Most People Get Wrong About You

They read your immersion in your work as having no life outside it, your identity-through-output as a lack of self, your constant producing as an inability to rest. The reading mistakes a noble surrender for an emptiness.

从儿格 is not someone with no self. It is someone whose self is fully expressed through what they create — and that surrender into output is a complete, noble formation, not an absence. The work-consumed quality the world reads is the same total commitment that makes the creative prosperity real. You have not lost yourself; you have given it fully to your making, which is where you most truly are. The danger is only the broken surrender — the 偏印 that seizes the output, or the 比劫 that half-restores a self the surrender had rightly let go.

The Pattern You Carry

The configuration runs when the surrender into Output is true — the day master with no root, 食伤 filling the chart, and crucially the child having a child: Output producing 财, creation flowing into wealth. That circulation, child to grandchild, is the highest grade and a chart of genuine prosperity, the self flourishing entirely through its creative production.

The trap is two-edged. 偏印 seizing the Output — 枭神夺食 — cuts the creative channel at its source, and the surrender collapses. And 比劫 transparent gives the day master a root it should not have, breaking the clean following. The work is to keep the output free and flowing into wealth — to protect the creative channel and ensure the child has a child, so the surrender stays true and the production keeps generating value.

Where This Shows Up

In work, you belong fully inside your creative output — making, producing, building, fields where the self is expressed through what it generates and where that generation earns. You do best when your output flows cleanly into value, the creation compounding into prosperity, and the configuration tends to mark people whose identity and livelihood both run entirely through what they make.

In relationships, the same total expression through creation can show — a self most present in what it produces and gives. The configuration's caution is the broken surrender: the seized output or the half-restored self. The work is to keep the creative channel free — to let yourself be fully expressed through your making, and to ensure that what you produce flows on to nourish rather than being cut off at the source.
