Conflict

讼。有孚窒惕,中吉,终凶。利见大人,不利涉大川。

Heaven over Water. Forces moving in opposite directions. The dispute that cannot be resolved by the parties involved.

The Lines

初六:不永所事,小有言,终吉。

Line 1 — Do not perpetuate the affair. Drop it early. Small embarrassment now prevents large destruction later.

九二:不克讼,归而逋,其邑人三百户,无眚。

Line 2 — Cannot engage in conflict. Retreat home. You are outmatched. Going home is intelligence, not defeat.

六三:食旧德,贞厉,终吉。或从王事,无成。

Line 3 — Nourished by ancient virtue. Don't reach for new weapons. Use what you already have.

九四:不克讼,复即命渝,安贞吉。

Line 4 — Return and accept fate. Surrender the position, not the principle.

九五:讼,元吉。

Line 5 — Contending before the great judge. Justice is possible when a fair authority presides.

上九:或锡之鞶带,终朝三褫之。

Line 6 — A leather belt of honor snatched away three times. You won the fight and gained nothing lasting.
