Great Excess 大过

大过。栋桡,利有攸往,亨。

Lake over Wind. The ridgepole bends. Too much weight at the center.

The Lines

初六:藉用白茅,无咎。

Line 1 — White rushes underneath. Extra care at the foundation when the structure is overloaded.

九二:枯杨生稊,老夫得其女妻,无不利。

Line 2 — A dry poplar sprouts at the root. Renewal from the base when the top is dying.

九三:栋桡,凶。

Line 3 — The ridgepole sags to the breaking point. The structure cannot hold. Don't add more weight.

九四:栋隆,吉,有它吝。

Line 4 — The ridgepole is braced. External support strengthens the structure.

九五:枯杨生华,老妇得其士夫,无咎无誉。

Line 5 — A withered poplar puts forth flowers. Late bloom. Not shameful, not glorious. Use the time wisely.

上六:过涉灭顶,凶,无咎。

Line 6 — It goes over one's head. The excess became catastrophe. The effort was genuine.
