The Abyss

☵ over ☵ · Water over Water
习坎。有孚,维心亨,行有尚。

Water over Water. Danger doubled. Flow through it, don't fight it.

The Lines

初六:习坎,入于坎窞,凶。

Line 1 — In the abyss one falls into a pit. The familiar response to danger takes you deeper.

九二:坎有险,求小得。

Line 2 — The abyss is dangerous. Small steps. Small gains keep you alive.

六三:来之坎坎,险且枕,入于坎窞,勿用。

Line 3 — Forward and backward, abyss on abyss. Every direction dangerous. Stop moving.

六四:樽酒簋贰,用缶,纳约自牖,终无咎。

Line 4 — A jug of wine, a bowl of rice. Modest sustenance delivered simply. Accept what comes.

九五:坎不盈,祗既平,无咎。

Line 5 — The abyss is not overfilled. The danger reaches its limit and stops.

上六:系用徽纆,寘于丛棘,三岁不得,凶。

Line 6 — Bound with ropes and thongs. Maximum confinement. But the three years end.
